As a world class leader in tertiary education, Monash University’s new Learning and Teaching Building needed a design that was going to be as dynamic and inspirational as the courses it offers. Comprising of four floors, the building hosts 65 formal and information learning and teaching spaces, including tutorial and lecture rooms, specialist teaching spaces and break-out areas; focused around the University’s vision of ‘Better Teaching, Better Learning’.
The new building is the largest infrastructure development program undertaken for the Clayton Campus and was designed by John Wardle Architects; well-renowned for their work on iconic projects such as the Westfield Sydney Commercial Tower, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and 900 Ann Street, Brisbane. Paying homage to the history of the Clayton site, the design encompasses the changes in theme over time; as indigenous bushland, colonial farmland, suburban subdivision and finally a university campus.

Located at the 567 Collins Street building in Melbourne, leading Australian Infrastructure company; Jemena was looking for a transformative, sustainable work environment for their current and future workplace.
This 15,000m2 fit-out project required construction across seven floors. Coordinated by Newstruct’s full time on site project manager and three site foremen, this seven-month contract required all parties to operate in an efficient manner in order to successfully complete this large scale, time sensitive project. Designed to look like a three-dimensional kaleidoscope that ignores the laws of physics with its luminescent appearance as a moving object; Lighthouse Tower in Melbourne’s CBD is a 69-storey residential development comprising of 607 units, automated car parking stacker system, recreational facilities, resident lounge areas, and of course amazing views right across Melbourne.
Using traditional masonry techniques for achieving corners, the Light House Tower gives the illusion that it is turning on its axis, with the appearance of no corners and reflective colour changing panels, which create a vibrant mosaic that stands out in Melbourne’s urban setting. The design also maximises natural light and ventilation, whilst providing residents with privacy and exclusive panoramic views of the city. Touted as a centre of the community and a keystone of the towns future development; the Cockburn Aquatic Recreation Centre (ARC) in Perth, Western Australia is opening to the public on May 21st 2017.
The $109million multi-purpose centre will house a swimming pool, netball and basketball courts, cafes and the new training facilities for AFL team the Fremantle Dockers. Studco worked with Exclusive Commercial Linings and Perth Plaster Board Centre to bring Architect Sandover Pindar's concept to life. Library at the Dock has just been awarded Australia’s first 6 star green star rating for a public building. This amazing addition is a centre point for the Docklands neighbourhood, providing a place for culture, community interaction and learning.
The Library at the Dock community centre is three stories high and 55.3 metres long by 18.1 metres wide with waterfront views.
The Studco external steel stud wall system and the Studco top hat system was used extensively on this project to offer an engineered solution to support
the unique recycled timber facade.

Studco’s involvement in the major redevelopment of the Margaret Court Arena helps give the Australian Open its third retractable roof tennis court at the Melbourne Park complex.
As part of the $700 million redevelopment of the Melbourne and Olympic Parks events precinct, the Margaret Court Arena has undergone a significant transformation including the erection of a 9 metre high acoustic perimeter wall and the installation of the fastest operable roof in the world which will allow the stadium to operate in all weather environments.
The project presented some of the most complex challenges ever seen by Studco: extreme roof deflection in two directions, rigorous acoustic performance, enormous free-spanning wall heights intersecting with a multi-faceted roof structure, and punishing wind pressures. To complicate matters further, the 2014 Australian Open was held at the site halfway through the two year build program.
Overcoming these formidable obstacles was achieved using a collaborative approach under the direction of builder Lend Lease and the use of innovative technologies including Studco’s real-time 3D CAD modelling and computer-based acoustic simulations. Routine weekly inspections then followed up to ensure correct installation and design compliance.
Thousands of custom-rolled 150mm steel studs were used in a chase wall configuration in conjunction with
Resilmount M24R chase wall resilient brackets to create the main wall structure around the stadium. The wall was then lined with USG Boral Fibrerock and Multistop lining boards along with a variety of different feature panelling components.
This design achieved significant cost savings from the original design, made on-site handling of materials easier and improved overall build efficiencies. It also removed the need for many heavy, fabricated structural steel sections using innovative combinations of Studco’s lightweight steel sections.
Studco’s involvement in the Margaret Court Arena project continues the long term association Studco has with Major Projects Victoria including the Melbourne Markets in Epping, Hamer Hall Redevelopment, AgriBio Centre at Latrobe University, the Melbourne Recital Centre and The Australian Synchrotron.
Located at one of Sydney’s busiest intersections on Broadway, the new building has transformed the local precinct - providing a new dramatic gateway to the UTS City Campus and downtown Sydney.
University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) unveiled its new Engineering and Information Technology Building. The single largest facility to be constructed under UTS’s $1 billion City Campus Master Plan.
Rising 13 storeys above the ground, the new building aims to bring new spaces to life to support both informal and formal learning experiences, providing a vibrant environment where students and staff collaborate and engage.
Fast Stud supplied Studco products to contractor Austem Interiors. Studco products used included Stud and Track, Flexi Track and Concealed Ceiling Systems.
The decision to engage Studco and Fast Stud for this project was due to the level of service provided and being able to give a quick solution to a challenging application. The main wall in the foyer entrance was curved on a multiple axis. Studco’s Engineering team created a specification that was quite intricate. Studco in-conjunction with Fast Stud collaborated extensively to provide Austem Interiors with a design that suited all parties including the architect, builder and contractor.
